Style Worship
Letting fluent prose, polished images or elegant explanations override warranted judgments of truth or acceptability.
The explanation is beautifully polished. The missing step remains missing.
Habitually allowing elegance, beauty or expressive effect to override warranted judgments of truth, importance or ethical acceptability.
Beauty and fluency have legitimate value; the fault is their unwarranted authority.

How it takes hold
The generated explanation moves elegantly from introduction to conclusion. Its transitions make the unsupported step feel inevitable. A reader may finish with the pleasure of understanding while still lacking the reason that would make the conclusion warranted.
Style Worship grants elegance or expressive effect authority over truth, importance or ethical acceptability. AI makes polished presentation easy to request, but the disposition is older than the tool. Its attraction lies in allowing the felt quality of an explanation to settle a different question about its substance.
A weak argument can travel farther because it is pleasant to repeat. A harmful proposal can acquire an air of inevitability or sophistication, making those who ask awkward questions seem merely unappreciative.
Finding the distinction
Illustrative situation: an elegant summary supports a consequential recommendation.
Too captivated: its polish substitutes for checking the inference.
Fitting: the reader appreciates its clarity and examines the decisive support.
Overcorrection: every polished explanation is presumed dishonest.
Credulity accepts inadequate grounds; Style Worship identifies the particular thing being allowed to override judgment: beauty or expressive force. Vanity seeks admiration for the presenter, which need not be the motive of the reader captivated by a beautiful account.
Clear and graceful expression is worth cultivating. Difficulty and ugliness do not establish truth, and plainness is no automatic evidence of sincerity.
Counterfeit of Discernment: An elegant explanation is praised as insightful without checking its decisive inference. Genuine Discernment distinguishes expressive achievement from factual support.
A response that restores something
An explanation can be evaluated at its decisive step: what evidence supports this transition, and would the inference remain persuasive in plainer words? That question allows the style to remain enjoyable without appointing it judge.
Ethical evaluation also needs a separate hearing. A beautifully staged imitation can still violate another person's reasonable claims.
The better result joins fitting expression to adequate substance. Style then helps readers see the grounds instead of making their absence less noticeable.
